My friend Sally and I came up with the idea of writing a little storybook about Duncan the alpaca one sunny day while we were drinking tea and enjoying the company of the herd, who were sunning themselves in the paddock nearby. Duncan has a lively character and a great sense of humour. He’s always the first to come running up for his breakfast, and he really looks after his herd mates as well as the chickens with whom the boys live. No fox will have a tasty breakfast when Duncan is on chicken duty! He loves to paddle in the pond, but if we move him to another paddock will make do with the trough – quite a funny sight, as it is only a little trough and Duncan is a big boy with long legs.
Since he’s also inquisitive and highly intelligent, we thought about the sort of adventures that he might enjoy, and Duncan Goes to See the Queen is his first outing. Watch out for Duncan goes to the Seaside, coming soon, where you will get to meet the other alpacas, the pigs and chickens, Yoda the pet rook, and of course the cats and ducks. Nobby the farm tractor will also make an appearance.
Parents and children alike will be charmed by Duncan and his world. Why not turn off the television, make a pot of hot chocolate and prepare to fall under his spell? The stories and illustrations will charm, entertain and delight readers of all ages.
